Welcome to Team Chad

Our friend, Chad Welch was diagnosed with Acute Mylogenous Leukemia on April 26th, 2005. He endured three separate relapses and two fully obliterate stem cell transplants during his 26 month long battle. Chad lost his courageous battle with cancer on June 24, 2007. This fund was inspired by Chad’s best friends in order to help Chad continue his fight against Leukemia.

We all lost a dear friend when Chad Welch's more than two-year battle with leukemia came to an end. Even though Chad was only with us for a short thirty years, Chad maximized every moment and had an incredible passion for life. This passion for life was evident in his many close friendships, his enthusiasm for all things associated with football (especially Big Orange Football), his zeal for his Christian values and his love for his wife and family. During Chad 's two-year fight with AML leukemia, he also became passionate about the larger fight against leukemia.

This passion was displayed in several fashions through Chad's life, including his nomination and campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man of the Year Award (where he won Hero of the Year), his contributions to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk and in his every day dealings with family and friends, as well as nurses, doctors and staff on the 11th Floor North at Vanderbilt Hospital.

We hold 3 Fundraising Events each year to help continue the fight Chad started to help those battling Leukemia.

In the Spring, our flagship Team Chad fundraising event each year is the Country Music Half Marathon. Next year, the half marathon will be held in Nashville on Saturday, April 24, 2010. We ask each of our Team Chad runners to raise at least $250. To learn more, please click on the ‘Half Marathon' page. Hopefully, you can participate in the run!

In the Summer, Team Chad hold a Wine Tasting and Silent Auction at Richland Country Club. This is a great chance to taste amazing wines that are available throughout the Midstate and help our great cause.

In the Fall, we hold our Annual Chad Welch Memorial Tailgate. To learn more, please click on the ‘UT Tailgate' page. We hope you can join us!
